About this role
What you’ll do: We are seeking a hands-on Senior Firmware Engineer to architect, design, implement, and validate embedded firmware for Eaton's Commercial Products & Assemblies (CPA) portfolio, such as Automatic Transfer Switches, Switching Devices, metering and monitoring devices, and associated protection & control modules. You will lead feature and subsystem-level delivery across the firmware lifecycle, provide technical guidance to team members, collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and test teams, and ensure high-quality, robust releases that meet schedule, cost, and compliance objectives. This role emphasizes technical leadership, disciplined engineering practices, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement in a global development environment. • Lead the end-to-end firmware development lifecycle for CPA products: analyze and refine requirements, define software design and architecture, implement robust solutions in C/C++, develop unit/integration tests, and support verification & validation (V&V), defect analysis, and root cause resolution. • Design, develop, and maintain low-level drivers, middleware, and platform software for 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers (preferably ARM Cortex-M), covering peripherals such as GPIO, timers, ADC/DAC, PWM, UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet; architect and integrate RTOS-based solutions where required. • Own the architecture and design of firmware features and subsystems, including state machines, bootloaders, diagnostics, logging frameworks, cybersecurity considerations, and field-update mechanisms; lead design reviews and enforce software engineering best practices. • Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and test engineering teams to drive board bring-up, system integration, interface validation, and complex debugging activities using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and other laboratory instruments. • Author, review, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including software requirements, architecture and design specifications, traceability matrices, test strategies, release documentation, and manufacturing support artifacts. • Lead firmware support for product compliance, reliability, and qualification activities by coordinating with external laboratories and internal teams for EMC/EMI, environmental, safety, and regulatory testing; develop and execute firmware-related validation plans. • Drive adherence to engineering processes, Agile/CMMI practices, change management, cybersecurity requirements, and PLM workflows; champion continuous improvement initiatives, reusable software frameworks, coding standards, and process enhancements. • Collaborate with global cross-functional stakeholders, including mechanical, hardware, systems, manufacturing, quality, product management, and program management teams, to achieve project objectives from concept through production release and sustaining engineering activities. • Estimate, plan, and lead firmware development activities; proactively identify technical risks, drive mitigation strategies, manage priorities, and ensure on-time delivery of high-quality, maintainable, and traceable software solutions. • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to firmware engineers through design coaching, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and support for career development, while contributing to the overall technical competency of the engineering team." Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant coursework in embedded systems, digital electronics, and software development will be preferable. 6-9 years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware development for industrial/commercial electronics or power distribution products. Proven ability to deliver feature-level firmware in a structured lifecycle with
