About this role
The Opportunity
At Unity, you'll make a difference. In a collaborative, fast-growing environment, we're democratising development, solving hard problems, and enabling the success of our community.Unity is looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to join our People Analytics team. You'll own the data foundation that the People organization and its leaders rely on, the pipelines, the warehouse, the metric definitions, and the self-service and support the AI-assisted experiences built on top of them. This is a hands-on build role with real architectural scope. You'll be the person who decides how People data is modeled and governed, and you'll increasingly be the person who makes that data usable not just in dashboards but by the AI tools our stakeholders are already reaching for. If you like owning a domain end to end, care about getting definitions right, and want your work to shape decisions about people, we'd like to talk to you. What you’ll be doing Design, develop, and maintain the data pipelines behind HR data modeling, metrics automation, and reporting, including self-service analytical layers that let HR functions answer their own questions. Architect and lead development of a dedicated People Analytics data warehouse and reporting layer, in close partnership with Insights Analysts while acting as the technical lead on critical data initiatives, mentoring peers and advancing BI best practices inside and outside People Analytics. With People Analysts, build the semantic and metric layer that makes People data reliably queryable by AI, clearly defined metrics, documented models, and governed access, so leaders can get trustworthy answers through conversational analytics instead of waiting on a dashboard request. Use AI-assisted development as a normal part of your workflow to accelerate pipeline development, modeling, testing, and documentation, and help set the standards for how the team does this well. Own governance in the data warehouse such as PII handling, access controls, output accuracy, GDPR, works council obligations, anonymization and the documentation requirements that come with high-risk HR use cases. What we’re looking for Experience building and owning data pipelines end to end, from ingestion through to visualization, with strong grounding in data engineering principles, ETL/ELT practices, data warehousing, modern analytics engineering practice, Git-based workflows, transformation frameworks such as dbt, pipeline orchestration, and data testing and observability. Deep SQL skills: complex query design, performance optimization, and robust data modeling in Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery. Hands-on experience with a modern BI platform, Looker preferred, or Tableau, Qlik, or Power BI, including the modeling layer, not just the visualization surface. Experience building analytics-ready data models with clear definitions and documentation: the kind of structure that makes both self-service and AI-driven querying trustworthy, including experience with AI Agents. Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, prioritize, and lead technical projects to completion. You might also have (optional) Experience with HRIS platforms (Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, or similar) and fluency in common HR data structures and metrics, headcount, attrition, diversity, compensation. Experience building Workday integrations Hands-on work with LLM APIs, retrieval, embeddings, or evaluating model output quality. Familiarity with big data infrastructure and other cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and tools such as Spark. Experience handling data under GDPR, with works councils, or in other regulated people-data environments. Working proficiency in Python (or a comparable language such as R) for data manipulation, scripting, and automation.
