About this role

Thanks for your interest in Oklo! We are searching for a Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer to join our team.

Position Description

The Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer is responsible for conducting probabilistic risk analyses to support our fast reactor design development, licensing, deployment, and operation. PRA Engineers work with our engineering teams to conduct quantitative risk analyses, including identification of initiating events (via hazards evaluation approaches such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs)), development of event trees and fault trees, quantification of event sequence probabilities, and evaluation of event sequence consequences. PRA Engineers also work with our engineering design teams to incorporate risk insights back into the design to drive improvements in reliability and safety.

Specific responsibilities may include

• Developing probabilistic risk analysis models of our fast reactor designs

• Working with our engineering analysis teams to analyze event sequences and compile risk insights

• Using PRA techniques to evaluate external hazards

• Working with our engineering design teams to incorporate risk insights into the design and improve system reliability

• Supporting licensing activities through generation of technical reports, technical analyses, and supporting documentation

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 5 years of work experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar

• Familiarity with PRA techniques

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bonus Qualifications

• Advanced training/education/experience in PRA

• Experience delivering products for regulatory review (DOE authorization, NRC licensing under 10 CFR Parts 50 or 52)

• Experience with PRA software (CAFTA, SAPHIRE, ADAPT, RAVEN, etc.)

• Experience with fast reactor design and analysis

• Experience with hazard analysis (FMEAs, Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPS), What-if Analysis)

• Experience with transient or source term analysis

• Experience with human reliability analysis

• Experience in operations, maintenance, or engineering support of operating nuclear power plants

Competencies

We are looking for a PRA engineer that is:

• Passionate about clean energy

• Passionate about making advanced fission a reality

• Willing and able to learn quickly

• Eager to work on a dynamic team, receive constructive feedback, and grow with us

• Willing to think differently and do things in new ways

• Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment

• Excited to think creatively, critically, and reflectively about the problems they are solving, while not leaning only on what has been done before

• Willing to propose novel and creative solutions to technical problems

• An excellent writer who can write in modern active voice, so make your cover letter compelling and write it well!

• Able to communicate technical content and results verbally

Who you are

A startup person: You aren't driven by titles or hierarchy, and prefer efficiency to excess process. You don't need or expect to have a lot of guidance but you enjoy working in a fast-paced team. If you prefer the culture and feel of a large organization, that is great, but you likely won’t enjoy working with us! There is plenty of important work and plenty of good
