Purpose
The Drill Operator II is responsible to safely and efficiently operating a production or a presplit drill in all aspects of drilling activities which includes but not limited to performing a daily safety inspection, reporting maintenance faults in a timely manner, operating the assigned drill equipment, reading drill pattern instructions, drilling blast holes to the correctly specified depth, ensuring he/she maintains the integrity of the drilled holes to allow an effective drilling sample to be taken, has an intermediate level understanding of minestar, effectively and efficiently managing the drill under his/her control.
Essential Duties
• Following the instructions of the Drill and Blast Supervisor
• Starts and ends timely ensuring all delays are minimised
• Works without risk or harm to self and others
• Practice sound work practices under direction, ask questions when an instructions is not clear.
• Communicate and provide work status handovers to incoming Drill Operators and the Drill and Blast Supervisor
• Communicate with the Dispatcher regarding hazards encountered to provide sufficient information to the incoming crew for the smooth running of the drill
• Consistently exercises discretion and judgement in job performance.
• Define and implement intermediate level drilling strategies for all tasks, allocated assets and support equipment, considering operational requirements and available resources
• Follow safe and efficient procedures for all routine tasks in compliance with legislation and Newmont Standards
• Meets or exceeds mine operations targets.
• Clearly understands how to identify issues and reports it to his/her supervisor.
• Is involved with his peers in risk, hazard identification and hazard management.
• Provides during work activities coaching to peers to reiterate safe operating procedures.
• Perform and support the execution of all drilling works with Newmont employees and business partners.
• Reads drill pattern instructions or diagrams, measuring the depth of blastholes helps stake out patterns of blast holes to be drilled.
• Operates one type of drilling machines to drill blast holes to specified depths at stake positions and understands Minestar displays and instructions.
• Able to manage drilling consumable usage.
• Works closely with the Drill Sampler and knows where they are at all times before moving
