About this role

Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with computer technology. Monitor the robotic system's performance, checking for any error messages, unusual behavior, or signs of malfunction, use specialized software to track the robot's activities and health. Understand all Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures and schedules to ensure they can be carried out by a tier 1 technician. Diagnose and troubleshoot any issues that occur, whether it's a software glitch, a hardware malfunction, or a problem with the robot's interaction with the server infrastructure. Perform troubleshooting/repairs and generate documentation. Install robot's operating software and related systems updates and ensure they are compatible with the data center's environment. Work closely with other data center staff, including robotics professionals, and security personnel. Communicate any issues, coordinate maintenance activities, and ensure the robot's operations align with the overall data center operations.

Minimum qualifications: 4 years of experience in hardware/Operating System (OS), coding and scripting or networking domains. Experience with troubleshooting and diagnosing computer, server, and network hardware. Experience with data center infrastructure: mechanical, electrical or similar. Experience in meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment. Experience with troubleshooting hardware/network issues using Linux tools. Ability to lift 50 lbs of equipment, and work on platforms, ladders, and under raised floors. Preferred qualifications: Experience with industrial robot programming (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, ABB, etc.). Experience with CAD and basic machining and prototyping tools and programs (e.g. Autodesk, Solidworks). Experience with industrial vision systems (Cognex, Keyence or OpenCV). Experience with industrial controllers (e.g., Rockwell, Beckoff, Siemens, etc.). Experience with SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) with moderate/advanced Plant Maintenance (PM) skillset. Ability to collaborate and partner with people and teams to overcome challenges.
