About this role
We help the world run better At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed. What you’ll build As part of the Industry AI unit for Energy and Natural Resources, your focus will be on the architecture, design, and technical delivery of solutions and agents in the areas of market communication and metering concept management/distributed energy resources. Working side by side with a dedicated team of Product Experts who define regulatory scope, you will translate product requirements into scalable, cloud-native software architectures and guide your development team from design to production. You will own the end-to-end technical solution for regulatory update cycles and new agentic use cases, ensuring that system design decisions balance correctness, performance, and maintainability. You drive architectural governance, evaluate technology choices, and act as the primary technical point of contact for all development teams on a day-to-day basis. Direct engagement with customers on technical requirements and solution design is an important and integral part of your work. This role requires a combination of deep technical expertise, systems thinking, and strong communication skills in German and English. What you bring You have several years of hands-on experience in software architecture and development, ideally in the utilities or energy industry. You have a deep understanding of the technical landscape underpinning German energy market communication — from message exchange to smart meter gateway integration — and you stay informed about relevant regulatory and technology trends. Based on your architectural expertise, your knowledge of cloud-native patterns, and your strong analytical skills, you design solutions that are both technically sound and valuable to customers. Required skills & experiences:
Proven experience designing and delivering software solutions for utility customers, with a solid understanding of market communication processes and related regulations. Hands-on experience in translating product requirements and regulatory changes into concrete technical designs, implementation plans, and actionable engineering tasks. Strong understanding of Agentic AI, SAP Business AI, and modern AI engineering capabilities, including their practical application in industry-specific technical architectures. Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor development teams, set architectural direction, and align cross-functional stakeholders on technical trade-offs and delivery priorities. Strong consulting and results orientation with the ability to structure technical ambiguity, evaluate architectural options, and guide teams from initial design to validated implementation. Proactively use AI in daily engineering workflows to accelerate design, code reviews, testing, automation, and quality assurance of results. Excellent knowledge of German and English.
Where you belong You will be part of the Industry AI unit for Energy and Natural Resources, a team focused on turning Industry AI opportunities in the ENR space into measurable customer value. In this role, you’ll help raise engineering standards beyond your immediate responsibility by driving architectural best practices, fostering an AI-powered development culture, and enabling your team to deliver with confidence and speed. If you want to shape the technical foundation of solutions that run critical energy infrastructure and are ready to take Industry AI for ENR from architecture to AI-supported
