Job Description
We are seeking a Software Developer to join our Investment Technology team, serving as a key contributor to building and maintaining trading platforms, financial reporting systems, and data integration solutions. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy scalable applications that support our asset management operations. A strong foundation in scripting languages, database technologies, and back-end development is essential for success in this position. Work 2 days a week at Chicago Riverpoint office and 3 days at home.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python, SAS, Bash, or PowerShell for data processing, reporting, and workflow optimization. Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions across enterprise database platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL). Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services using Java Spring Boot and Node.js. Build responsive front-end interfaces using React.js, HTML, and CSS. Develop and consume RESTful APIs, SOAP web services, and JSON-based integrations. Write clean, maintainable code following object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and coding standards. Implement comprehensive testing strategies including unit, integration, and acceptance testing (TDD). Perform code refactoring to improve performance, readability, and maintainability. Manage source code using Git and participate in code reviews. Support CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Gradle, and containerization with Kubernetes. Implement web and API security best practices to protect applications and data. Partner with business analysts, front office, and operations teams to translate requirements into technical solutions. Collaborate with cloud infrastructure teams to deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms (Apigee, AWS, Azure). Troubleshoot production issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
3–6 years of hands-on software development experience. Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, SAS, Bash, PowerShell, or Perl for automation, data processing, and analytics. Advanced SQL skills with experience writing complex queries, joins, aggregations, stored procedures, and performance tuning across Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL. Proficient in back-end programming with Java and JavaScript. Experience with Java Spring Boot for building enterprise-grade applications. Working knowledge of React.js and advanced JavaScript libraries/frameworks. Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and design patterns. Experience developing and integrating SOAP/REST APIs and working with JSON data formats. Hands-on experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD). Proficient with Git for version control and collaborative development. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Gradle. Experience with containerization and orchestration using Kubernetes. Working knowledge of Node.js for server-side development. Proficiency with development tools including IntelliJ IDE and Postman. Understanding of web security and API security principles. Familiarity with HTML/CSS for front-end development. Exposure to cloud infrastructure and API management platforms (Apigee, AWS, Azure). Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC best practices. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
