A Day in the Life Join Medtronic as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and play a key role in the design and development of innovative mechanical and electromechanical medical products and systems across Research and Technology (R&T), New Product Development (NPD), and Released Product Engineering (RPE). You will apply strong mechanical engineering expertise, technical judgment, predictive engineering methods, and creative problem-solving to develop, launch, and sustain high-quality solutions intended to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. You will work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, taking ownership of complex engineering activities from concept design and analysis through prototyping, production design, verification and validation, manufacturing transfer, and released-product support. The role also provides opportunities to lead technical activities, influence engineering decisions, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: Lead and execute mechanical engineering activities across R&T, NPD, and RPE, including the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical components, assemblies, mechanisms, and systems, creation of 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation Perform engineering analyses, including tolerance stack-up and Geometric Dimensioning, Tolerancing (GD&T), and predictive engineering, to evaluate and optimize product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost Plan, support, and document prototype builds, engineering testing, Verification and Validation (V&V), and the design and qualification of assembly, test, calibration fixtures, jigs, and tools Lead technical investigations and structured root-cause analysis for complex design, manufacturing, test, production, and field issues, and develop, implement, and verify appropriate corrective actions and design improvements Drive product lifecycle activities across development and sustaining engineering, including Bill of Materials (BOM) development, configuration control, engineering changes, technical documentation, and transfer of designs from Research and Development (R&D) to manufacturing and ongoing released product support Collaborate with manufacturing teams, suppliers, quality, systems, tests, electrical, and other cross-functional stakeholders on technology evaluation, component selection, manufacturing processes, assembly, product introduction, design transfer, and resolution of technical issues Provide technical guidance, coaching, and design reviews for other engineers, and lead engineering projects or workstreams across R&T, NPD, and RPE as assigned Required Knowledge and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or a PhD with 0 years of relevant experience Strong experience in mechanical product design and development, including precision-machined parts, sheet metal components, plastics, mechanisms, and mechanical assemblies Strong knowledge and practical application of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, design for manufacturability, and design verification methods Proficiency with 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools such as CREO and SolidWorks Strong knowledge of common
