About this role

Career Area: Engineering Job Description: Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc. When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other.  We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. Caterpillar products process high volumes of data coming from sensors, embedded systems and control systems in real time. Caterpillar’s MineStar integrated suite of machine-based technologies provides operators with information to enhance productivity, efficiency and safety. MineStar can enable customers to monitor, manage and optimize their operations. It provides a wide range of features in the areas of guidance, tracking, monitoring and supervisory control. MineStar integrates with broader mining and enterprise systems and is a key part of the Mining Technology Enabled Solutions vision. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Software) to lead one or more cross-functional software delivery teams building and evolving Caterpillar MineStar products. You will be accountable for team performance, engineering execution, and the delivery of measurable customer outcomes. This role partners closely with Product Management, Architecture, and peer engineering leaders to set technical direction, strengthen operating rhythm, and foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and built-in quality.

What You Will Do

Lead, coach, and develop engineers through clear expectations, regular feedback, performance management, and career growth plans. Build and sustain high-performing teams: hiring, onboarding, resource planning, and succession planning aligned to product and platform strategy. Own delivery outcomes across one or more teams: predictable execution, transparent reporting, and effective risk/issue management. Embed a culture of built-in quality through engineering excellence practices (e.g., automated testing, code review, SRE/operability, and continuous improvement). Define, track, and improve key engineering metrics (throughput, quality, reliability, and customer impact) and use data to drive decisions. Partner with Product, UX, Architecture, and integration teams to align technical roadmap, architecture, and feature delivery to customer and business strategy. Drive technical strategy within your area of ownership—balancing new capability delivery with platform health, scalability, security, and technical debt reduction. Anticipate and mitigate delivery and technical risks; resolve cross-team dependencies and remove impediments to sustained flow. Maintain strong technical credibility across modern product development practices (cloud, distributed systems, DevOps, security, mobile, data/analytics) to guide decision-making and coach teams. What You Will Have: Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace. Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.
