Software Engineer (Associate or Experienced) Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer (Developer) to join the Experimental Systems Group Telemetry & Command Database team in Seal Beach, CA. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate and Experienced Software Engineers. This role is ideal for a software engineer who enjoys working close to hardware and mission operations, cares about data correctness and performance, and wants to grow into a domain expert in spacecraft/flight test telemetry and command systems. This team develops and sustains the data backbone that connects spacecraft, flight-test systems, ground systems, laboratories, and mission operations. Our telemetry and command databases transform complex system interfaces into trusted, usable data products—enabling engineers and operators to understand system performance, send the right commands, and make informed decisions throughout integration, test, and operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a software engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of software, databases, hardware interfaces, and mission operations. The successful candidate will help define how telemetry and command data is modeled, validated, accessed, distributed, and maintained across multiple environments. The selected candidate will work closely with systems engineers, flight software developers, test engineers, database specialists, and operations teams to turn interface control documents and mission requirements into reliable, high-performance software and data solutions.
Position
Responsibilities: Designs, develops, tests, and maintains telemetry and command database schemas, dictionaries, metadata, and supporting software tools Translates interface control documents, system specifications, and engineering requirements into robust data models Defines and manages data attributes such as identifiers, naming conventions, data types, units, limits, calibrations, enumerations, packet structures, command parameters, and relationships Develops services, APIs, scripts, and pipelines to ingest, transform, validate, version, publish, and distribute telemetry and command definitions Supports the consistent propagation of approved data definitions across development, integration, laboratory, test, and operational environments Implements automated data-quality checks for completeness, naming conflicts, invalid units, range violations, referential integrity, incompatible changes, and other schema or metadata issues Designs and maintains relational database structures, queries, views, constraints, indexes, migrations, and data-access patterns Develops and optimizes software that reads, writes, transforms, and presents database information through batch and real-time workflows, APIs, and integration services Supports database performance, reliability, and scalability through query optimization, indexing, transaction management, caching, and effective schema design Develops unit, integration, regression, and data-validation tests for database-backed applications and services Troubleshoot database and data-pipeline issues, including failed jobs, migration errors, data inconsistencies, performance problems, and discrepancies between environments Contributes to CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, deployments, database migrations, configuration management, code reviews, and technical documentation Collaborates with systems engineers, flight software developers, test engineers, database specialists, and mission operations personnel Participates in Agile planning, technical reviews, process improvement, and the evaluation of technologies that improve data quality, observability, maintainability, and operational performance Security Clearance: This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required).
