Fire Alarm Technical Sales Rep, L&M At Johnson Controls, you will help protect people, property, and business continuity by growing fire alarm solutions that support safer, smarter buildings. In this role, you will focus exclusively on L&M opportunities, with a clear separation from Construction/MAC sales so both teams can concentrate on their distinct parts of the fire alarm business.
Role
Overview This role is responsible for identifying, developing, and closing L&M fire alarm opportunities within assigned accounts and customer segments. You will use your technical understanding of fire alarm solutions to build trust with customers, position the right solution for their needs, and support a smooth sales process from first conversation through proposal, negotiation, and close.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and close L&M fire alarm opportunities across assigned accounts and customer relationships. Qualify customer needs, uncover expansion opportunities, and build a healthy sales pipeline. Conduct building surveys and gather the information needed to prepare accurate estimates and proposals. Present solutions clearly to customers, explain scope and value, and support contract negotiation through close. Maintain accurate sales activity, proposal backlog, account notes, and customer correspondence. Partner with internal teams such as account executives, business development managers, technical resources, service, and management to support customer needs. Support customer follow-up and account management to strengthen long-term relationships and recurring business. Use CRM discipline and reporting to track opportunity status, next steps, and forecast visibility. How You Will Do It Own the L&M opportunity pipeline with accountability, safety, and integrity. Stay close to the customer’s building needs, remove obstacles quickly, and keep the sales process moving. Use a consultative approach to translate technical fire alarm knowledge into practical, customer-focused solutions. Work across sales, technical, and operations partners as one team, building trust and using diverse perspectives to win business. Improve every day through clear follow-up, candid communication, and disciplined problem-solving. Keep proposals, records, and forecasts current so customers and internal partners always have a clear view of opportunity status.
Qualifications
Experience in B2B sales, account development, or technical solution sales in a commercial environment. Knowledge of fire alarm systems and the ability to speak credibly about retrofits, upgrades, and new installs. Ability to conduct building surveys, prepare estimates, and support proposal development. Strong relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and closing skills. Demonstrated organization, follow-through, and time management skills. Ability to maintain accurate records, manage a proposal backlog, and produce timely sales reports. Proficiency with Salesforce.
Nice to Have
At least 3 years experience selling service agreements or recurring L&M work in commercial fire protection. Familiarity with commercial building systems such as suppression, sprinkler, security, sound, or communication systems. Prior experience working closely with engineering, service, estimators, or project teams. Knowledge of vertical
