Department/Unit: Transplant Immunology Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $64,972.00 - $97,458.00 The Clinical Laboratory Technologist II with On-Call Duties performs advanced histocompatibility testing to support transplantation services, including HLA typing, antibody testing, crossmatching, and other specialized procedures. This position independently resolves complex technical issues, ensures the accuracy and quality of laboratory results, and maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The technologist also trains staff and students, participates in quality improvement and research activities, communicates with transplant teams, supports laboratory operations, and provides on-call coverage to ensure timely testing for patient care.

Qualifications

1. Must meet all qualifications for a Clinical Laboratory Technologist I and have three (3) years of relevant experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist I in histocompatibility testing; or one (1) year experience in histocompatibility testing and ABHI Certified Histocompatibility Technologist/Associate (CHT/CHA) certification. 2.     Must maintain “Meets Standards and Advancing” ratings of performance in the Employee Merit System (EMS) and Annual Competency Assessment (ACA). 3.     Meets the requirements to obtain and maintain license from the NYS Dept. of Education for Clinical Laboratory Technologist or area specific Restricted License for Histocompatibility. 4.     Maintains continuing education as required by the NYS Dept. of Health, ABHI and ASHI and maintains ABHI CHT/CHA certification and MT(ASCP) if applicable. Basic Function: Performs all functions and duties of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist I plus demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all routine and specialized procedures performed in the department and is able to resolve complex problems relating to procedures using background knowledge and independent judgment.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Performs all HLA typing procedures. 2.    Performs all HLA antibody screening and identification and crossmatching procedures.  Identifies the antibodies in patient's blood that could react adversely and cause harm to the person receiving a transplant. 3.    Performs all HLA procedures which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility. 4.    Responsible for technical quality of work performed including accuracy, documentation, and thoroughness of procedures completed. 5.    Performs special HLA procedures as directed. 6.    Demonstrates competence by performing external and internal proficiency testing. 7.    Maintains adequate records of all procedures performed, records workload and   other statistics, records all results of tests conducted in the laboratory, writes draft and final reports neatly, accurately and clearly. 8.   Practices appropriate personnel, fire, safety, infection control, and hazardous chemical policies and implements them accordingly. 9.     Responsible for the procurement, storage and routing of supplies as directed; recommends the procurement of new or additionally needed supplies. 10.   Responsible for the orderliness and cleanliness of the TIL and is responsible for the cleanliness of technical and scientific equipment which is not maintained by the College Environmental Services or Clinical Engineering Departments. 11.   Responsible for training newly assigned Technicians/Technologists and providing information regarding job performance and policies and procedures of the TIL and of the College. 12.   Responsible for the training and supervision of any Clinical Laboratory Sciences students while assigned to the TIL.  Recommends to the supervisor additional training relating to student activities while assigned to the lab.  13.   Participates in formal teaching programs, conferences and in-service educational programs as required. 14.   Communicates effectively with
