Certified Welder - Short Call Johnson Controls supports manufacturing operations that depend on safe, accurate, and high-quality welding work. In this role, you will help produce metal components and assemblies while working closely with supervisors and lead hands to meet production goals, quality standards, and plant requirements.
Role
Overview As a Welder, you will perform hands-on welding and cutting work in a manufacturing environment. You will read drawings, operate welding equipment, inspect work for quality, and keep documentation current to support efficient production flow.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications, production drawings, and work orders. Operate the Miller Aluma Pro Mig gun and manual or semi-automatic welding equipment using GMAW, TIG, and plasma cutter processes. Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment and perform oxy acetylene cutting when needed. Fabricate metal components using hand tools, power tools, and metalworking machinery. Maintain safe work practices and follow established Standard Operating Procedures. Conduct technical inspections to confirm quality and compliance with drawing and specification requirements. Prepare accurate input for management and log reports. Review blueprints and specifications to ensure parts and assemblies will function as intended in the final environment. Develop goals and priorities, assign tasks and projects, and ensure work is completed accurately and on time. Keep detailed records and documentation for work orders, inspections, and completed tasks. Stay current on changes in technology, compliance requirements, and repair or welding techniques. Support other assigned work as needed in a busy manufacturing setting. How You Will Do It Work safely every shift, follow plant procedures, and take ownership of the quality and accuracy of your work. Stay close to the work by verifying drawings, specifications, and work orders before you begin, and by addressing issues quickly when they appear. Use clear communication with supervisors and lead hands to coordinate priorities, maintain flow, and support a strong team environment. Look for practical improvements in your work cell and apply continuous improvement thinking to help meet quotas and reduce rework. Keep your documentation, work-order scans, and reports complete and accurate so the team can make informed decisions.
Qualifications
Alloy and steel welding experience. Minimum of 3 years of MIG and TIG welding experience. Standard blueprint knowledge and the ability to read production drawings, blueprints, work orders, and written instructions. Strong knowledge of metalworking machinery and the use of various hand tools and equipment used to manufacture metal. Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and all safety policies and protocols. Quality orientation, time management, problem solving, accountability, dependability, decision making, and good judgment. Operating equipment with strong communication, teamwork, planning, and mathematical reasoning skills. Ability to scan in and out of work orders. Comfort working in a busy environment and under pressure.
Nice to Have
High School Diploma, GED, or relevant certifications. GMAW experience. TIG welding experience. Aluminum and steel experience. Use of cutting tools, with plasma experience preferred. Oxy acetylene cutting experience. General use of hand and power tools. Experience with routine maintenance operations. Ability to work independently in a busy environment. Strong attention to detail. Flexibility and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
