At the Northrop Grumman Radford, VA location, also known as New River Energetics, our Medium Caliber Ammunition facility produces 25MM, LW30, 30MM and 50MM ammunition for the US Armed Forces and allies. Our production lines require driven and knowledgeable people to maintain throughput efficiency, reduce scrap, and ensure on time delivery of high-quality product. The quality engineer’s responsibility is to understand and manage customer requirements from receipt of contract to submission of final product. Production Planning (Plan): Reviews of customer requirements to generate quality plans. Identify and act upon risk areas. Lead readiness reviews prior to production start. Production Support (Do): Work with cross functional team to implement quality plans and address production concerns. Assess quality concerns on the line. Provide disposition either individually or as team based on specification and drawing requirements. Create and maintain technical documentation, reviewed by internal and external customers. Draft Certificates of Conformance Assess Quality Performance (Check): Track Key Performance Indicators and conduct internal audits Quality Improvement (Act): Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis Identify and implement improvement projects Job Summary Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Manage contract and production readiness reviews to drive customer satisfaction. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
