Job Summary
Responsible for directing the construction management functions for the AEP Transmission and Telecom systems. Responsibilities include direct accountability for completion of transmission and telecom projects within the 11 state service territory including cost control, scheduling, labor contracting, construction, and implementing the AEP Transmission Contractor Safety Oversight program. These projects will total over $3 billion annually and be multiple years in duration. Also responsible to work with Joint Venture partners and other third parties to develop and deliver similar EHV transmission projects as required. The work team, including technical and clerical support, will be at dispersed locations throughout the AEP system footprint. Significant interfacing and coordination with other AEP departments and JV/third party management will be required.
Job Description
What You'll Do: Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Transmission Construction Management group which includes Transmission and Telecom Construction, Outage Planning, and Constructability groups. Demonstrate strategic leadership, initiate action, and take appropriate risks to safely achieve construction of all Telecom, Transmission line and all Transmission and Distribution station facilities in AEP on schedule, within budget and as per defined scope. Partner with Projects Engineering, Project Management, Operating Companies and others as appropriate in planning, scheduling, and assigning TCR and Telecom inspector work activities. Provide a liaison role to other departments and operating companies involved with transmission and telecom projects. Resolve project conflicts and delays to the satisfaction of the corporation as well as clients. Direct and coordinate all telecom and transmission line and station construction work authorized by the asset owner group including all inspections, cost control, cost monitoring and overall reporting of progress. Provide direction to those assigned to accomplish construction site management to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations, company standards, drawings and specifications. Direct the development and execution of the AEP Transmission Contractor Safety Program. Manage and direct a dispersed work force that supports one another as work loads shift between service areas. Initiate needed changes to assure compliance with changed regulatory processes, procedures or requirements. Direct and supervise employees in their use of accepted industry standards, corporate best practices and governmental regulations/standards for the construction of telecom and transmission facilities. Sponsor continuous improvement initiatives. Assure compliance with all applicable governmental and corporate safety and health standards. Provide vigorous oversight of contractor safety performance. Provide strategic leadership through engaging in annual strategic planning for Grid Development initiatives that support AEP’s overall 5-year priorities, as well as executing and leading assigned strategic tasks.
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, construction management, safety, project management or related field At least 5 years' experience in Project Management; or 12 years of experience in Design, Planning, Construction or Operations. Demonstrated understanding of engineering and/or construction techniques for Station, Control and/or Transmission Systems. Additional Experience Professional registration (PMP) is desired.
