About this role

We're seeking an experienced data governance professional to join our team as a Director, HR Data Governance & Quality, responsible for strengthening the governance, ownership, quality, and transparency of Human Resource data to ensure it is trusted, well-managed, and fit for business, operational, analytical, and regulatory use across the firm. This role will help establish and mature the governance practices that enable confidence in HR data and support informed decision-making. In the Human Resources division, we help the firm support and develop its workforce through people insight, effective service delivery and practical tools that make it easier for employees and managers to get what they need. This role sits within HR Data & Intelligence, which helps the firm make better workforce decisions by turning data into trusted insight. The team delivers core data, reporting, and AI infrastructure that supports people operations and enables self-service access to workforce insights across HR and Morgan Stanley businesses. What you'll do in the role: Drive execution of HR data governance and data quality initiatives, ensuring delivery against agreed priorities and measurable improvements in data reliability, transparency, and usability Partner with HR product, analytics, engineering, and firmwide risk and control teams to implement governance standards, ownership practices, and data quality requirements across systems, processes, and reporting solutions Establish and maintain governance artifacts including data ownership models, business definitions, data catalogs, metadata repositories, lineage documentation, and critical data inventories that improve transparency into HR's data landscape Design and implement data quality controls, monitoring, and rules that identify risks, detect defects, and increase confidence in HR data used for operational, analytical, and regulatory purposes Own and coordinate data issue management activities, including issue identification, root cause analysis, prioritization, remediation tracking, escalation, and resolution reporting to ensure risks are addressed in a timely and sustainable manner Conduct fit-for-purpose assessments of critical HR data assets, partnering with business and technical stakeholders to evaluate data readiness, usage requirements, controls, risks, and opportunities for improvement Develop practical standards, documentation, and guidance that help data owners, data stewards, and consumers understand governance requirements and their responsibilities across the HR data lifecycle Identify opportunities to leverage AI-enabled capabilities to strengthen data quality management, monitoring, analysis, and governance processes Contribute to the growth of the function by sharing expertise, supporting junior team members, and helping establish scalable governance practices What you'll bring to the role: At least 5 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role Experience in data governance, data quality, data management, data stewardship, or related disciplines within a complex, multi-system environment Experience establishing or supporting data ownership frameworks, data cataloging programs, metadata management practices, and data lineage documentation Experience defining, implementing, or monitoring data quality rules, controls, standards, and remediation processes that improve the reliability, completeness, accuracy, and integrity of business-critical data Experience managing data issues through investigation, root cause analysis, remediation planning, stakeholder coordination, and resolution tracking Experience conducting fit-for-purpose assessments, data reviews, or governance evaluations to determine whether data is suitable for
