Internship Details: This internship/co-op opportunity is based in Toronto, Ontario and follows a hybrid work model . Candidates should be able to work from our downtown Toronto office 1–2 days per week , depending on team and business needs. We are considering students available for internship/co-op terms ranging from 8 to 16 months beginning in May/June 2027 Role Overview: As a Software Developer Intern on the Genesys Cloud Predictions Data & Decision team, you will work with a highly collaborative and diverse team of software engineers, data engineers, and operations research engineers to build intelligent solutions for our workforce management products. Our team tackles complex, real-world problems involving forecasting, resource planning, optimization, and intelligent decision-making . You will have the opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of a problem—from understanding the problem and exploring data, to designing algorithms, building software, running experiments, and evaluating results. We are especially interested in people who are intellectually curious, enjoy solving ambiguous problems, and are excited about the intersection of software engineering, data, optimization, and AI . You don't need to be an expert in Operations Research or AI. We are looking for strong problem solvers who are excited to learn and apply new techniques to challenging problems.
What You'll Do
Work with experienced engineers and researchers to design, develop, and test solutions to complex workforce management problems. Explore and learn how different components of WFM work together, including forecasting, scheduling, and prediction systems . Use data, mathematical modeling, algorithms, and experimentation to understand problems and evaluate potential solutions. Develop software and prototypes that turn ideas and research into scalable, production-ready solutions . Experiment with AI and machine learning techniques , including exploring how modern AI capabilities can improve workforce planning and decision-making. Analyze experimental results and use quantitative and qualitative evidence to guide engineering and product decisions. Write maintainable code and automated tests, and participate in collaborative code reviews. Work with team members across Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Operations Research, and Product to solve customer problems. Learn and contribute within a modern cloud-based, distributed software environment . Communicate your ideas, findings, and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related technical discipline. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Comfortable with fundamental concepts in mathematics, statistics, or data analysis . Experience programming in at least one language such as Python, Java, C++, C#, or a similar language . Curiosity about how things work and an ability to learn new technologies and concepts quickly. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with algorithms, data structures, mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, or machine learning. Experience working with AI/ML technologies or large language models .
