About the Role
The Electrical Design Engineer develops and maintains electrical, instrumentation and control system designs for the Process Analytics product portfolio, ensuring products meet customer, safety, performance and global regulatory requirements. The role works across pre-sales, order delivery, product sustaining and new product development to resolve design issues and support reliable product integration. Working closely with mechanical, systems, operations, quality, service and commercial teams, the role supports customer-specific engineering, product configuration, engineering change control and manufacturing execution from concept through build, test, commissioning and field support.
What You'll Do
Undertake electrical, instrumentation and control system designs from concept through to commissioning. Design 1-phase and 3-phase low-voltage electrical systems, switchgear and instrumentation for industrial and mining applications. Design products for harsh mining environments and incorporate appropriate protection against EMC/EMI, surges, power-line fluctuations and short circuits. Liaise with key stakeholders during the pre-sales phase and complete technical reviews of system requirements, tender documentation and customer specifications within agreed timeframes. Apply Australian and international engineering standards and customer design standards as appropriate. Comply with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, corporate policies and ethical standards. Prepare project- and product-related documentation, design records and progress reports. Develop electrical schematics, control-panel layouts, wiring diagrams and detailed production drawings required for manufacturing. Check manufacturing drawings for completeness, correctness and conformance with specifications and applicable standards. Participate in peer reviews and design-verification activities for assigned projects. Maintain product configurations, detailed component specifications and equipment designs in the global product data management (PDM) system. Consult with local and global cross-functional teams to determine optimum design and integration solutions. Design plant interfaces for seamless integration with customers' process control systems using industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Profibus, OPC and Modbus. Select automation controllers, PLCs and SCADA components and integrate and program these control systems as required. Design internal and external cable assemblies for low-voltage control systems and complete panel-layout and load-rating calculations. Evaluate vendor proposals, select components against technical specifications, maintain approved manufacturer information and support BOM release and maintenance in the ERP system. Liaise with electrical and electronic suppliers, contract manufacturers and internal manufacturing teams to provide technical support for released designs. Conduct technical risk analyses, prepare First Article Inspection (FAI) test reports and troubleshoot design issues identified during FAI. Work closely with production and validation teams during system build, outbound quality control, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). Execute Engineering Change Orders
