Job Description
An opportunity for a Hardware/Software Assurance Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Getafe (Madrid). Department Mission: The successful applicant will join the Systems Engineering Department. Our mission is to define and implement practices, tools, and techniques to substantiate—at an adequate level of confidence—that errors in requirements, design, and implementation are identified and corrected, ensuring the system fully satisfies the applicable certification basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The main tasks and responsibilities of the jobholder will include: Define Certification Agreements: Discuss and negotiate the Certification Basis (including Certification Review Items - CRIs) and authority involvement levels directly with Airworthiness and Certification Authorities. Monitor Supplier Development: Audit and oversee suppliers to ensure full compliance with RTCA/DO-254 and RTCA/DO-178 standards, including process controls, traceability, validation/verification, Requirements-Based Engineering, Single Event Upset (SEU) control, and equipment robustness. Conduct Internal Audits: Perform pre-certification reviews mirroring Airworthiness Authority standards to detect and resolve deficiencies well ahead of official milestones. Establish Documentation Deliverables: Define and control the required hardware and software documentation packages to be delivered by suppliers at each development phase per RTCA/DO-254 and RTCA/DO-178. Validate Safety & Criticality Compliance: Track, verify, and report that system compliance aligns with safety/criticality requirements and meets the overall program schedule. Coordinate Cross-Functional Domains: Work jointly with equipment designers, Quality, Certification, Qualification, Safety, and Design Office teams to achieve civil and military aircraft equipment certification.

Education
Degree in Engineering (Aeronautical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Systems, or a related discipline).
Experience
Proven experience in Hardware Design Assurance and Software Design Assurance for aircraft equipment, including Complex Electronic Hardware (CEH) devices (such as ASICs, PLDs, and complex COTS components). Technical Knowledge: Strong mastery of RTCA/DO-254 (Hardware) and RTCA/DO-178 (Software) standards or equivalent civil/military standards. Languages: Advanced level in English.
