About the team and the role Ads Engineering builds the platforms, services, APIs, and seller experiences that power advertising on eBay, including campaign workflows, dashboards and reporting, public APIs, selling flows, and foundational systems that help sellers and advertisers grow their businesses. MarTech Engineering develops the platforms and capabilities that drive customer marketing and lifecycle engagement across eBay, including customer marketing platforms, performance marketing, marketing implementation systems, and the technical foundations that support personalized, measurable, and scalable customer engagement. Together, these teams build products, platforms, and workflows crafted to support sellers in growing their businesses. They also enable advertisers to meet their goals and connect customers to the right inventory at the right time. Their work spans frontend applications, backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and modern engineering practices, in close partnership with Product, Development, Analytics, Applied Science, and program leadership. As a senior engineering leader, you will participate in architecture discussions, review production code, influence platform strategy, and help engineering teams navigate complex technical challenges while promoting a high-performance engineering culture. You will lead teams responsible for building and evolving critical platforms that power experiences for millions of users globally. What you will accomplish Own the build, evolution, and long-term health of highly scalable systems and distributed platforms that support advertising and customer marketing experiences across eBay. Stay actively involved in architecture reviews, technical decision-making, build reviews, and critical code paths to help teams deliver durable, high-quality solutions. Drive platform modernization, including migration from monolithic systems to cloud-native microservices architectures that improve scalability, reliability, and developer agility. Partner closely with architects, product leaders, and engineering teams to define technology strategy, influence roadmaps, and lead large-scale platform transformations. Champion engineering excellence through code quality, performance optimization, observability, resiliency, operational excellence, and modern developer productivity practices. Build, guide, and develop high-performing engineering teams across multiple geographies and time zones while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, continuous learning, and customer focus.
What you will bring
10+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of leading high-performing engineering teams and delivering large-scale platforms. Deep hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and modern data technologies. Proven success building and scaling high-throughput, low-latency systems that serve millions of customers with strong architectural depth in scalability, resiliency, observability, and performance engineering. A strong passion for technology, with the ability to dive into code, influence technical decisions, and raise the bar on engineering quality and execution.
