About this role
The DERMS Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of the Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS). This newly created position offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation, laying the groundwork for the expansion of energy management within the distribution system. The DERMS Operations Specialist is responsible for the real-time and near-real-time operational integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) on the electric distribution system. This role ensures DERs are operated safely, reliably, and in compliance with grid constraints, using DERMS and related advanced distribution applications. The specialist serves as a technical bridge between distribution system operators, planning, IT/OT systems, and DER programs. Currently, DERMS is in Phase I of implementation, focusing on visibility of the distribution system. During this stage, the DERMS Operations Specialist will maintain system awareness, monitor distributed resources, and evaluate load and generation forecasts. As the program prepares for Phase II, which includes system optimization and dispatch, the DERMS Operations Specialist will contribute to the development of user interfaces, tools, and processes necessary for seamless and reliable DERMS operations. As new distributed resources are integrated, the specialist will ensure communication paths are established for real-time monitoring and dispatch. This role will initially follow a hybrid work schedule, with four days per week, Monday through Thursday, at the office located at 241 Ralph McGill.
