JOB SUMMARY
Research, review, investigate and adjust claims for personal injury or other complaints made by passengers.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs in-house adjustment of passenger personal injury and other claims. Reviews documentation, conducts research/investigation, evaluates, negotiates and resolves claims in accordance with contracts, agreements, legal liability and corporate policies. Provides timely notification to P&I Clubs or insurance carriers of incidents, illnesses, accidents and injuries, claims and lawsuits. Assists in the handling of claims and cases in litigation including obtaining information/documentation necessary to defend lawsuits and giving testimony on behalf of the company. Establishes claim files; updates logs and other statistical data. Prepares correspondence and reports as necessary. Files medical reports, accident reports and other pertinent data in the respective claim files. Develops and implements calendar or diary system with established time frames for required procedures and tasks. Monitors trends as they relate to losses, complaints, or incidents. Provides feedback on loss control measures, trends, ways to improve service and company policies and procedures. Perform other job related functions as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
DEGREE TYPE: Bachelor's Degree FIELD(S) OF STUDY: Related field of study; or any equivalent combination of relevant background and work experience.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 2 to 4 years corporate claims department experience. Understanding of liability/Jones Act requirements and P&I coverage. COMPETENCIES/SKILLS Must be familiar with claims procedures and processes and have good negotiation and communication skills. Must be familiar with medical terminology and be able to read medical reports. Must be PC literate in Outlook, Word, and Excel. Prior legal experience a plus.
