As an Environmental Specialist , you will manage end-to-end air permitting and regulatory approvals for fast-paced Power Innovation projects, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Responsibilities include developing permitting strategies, coordinating across technical, legal, and regulatory teams, managing stakeholder engagement, and tracking obligations through development and construction. The position focuses on evaluating new project opportunities to ensure understanding of key challenges or limitations linked to location, identification of and securing of required air permits and approvals, advises on permit conditions and compliance strategy, and prepares assets for operational handoff.  Senior specialists focus on strategy and negotiation, while mid-level specialists handle drafting, data compilation, and process execution. Res p onsibilities/Ex p ectations: Lead air permitting analysis and application development efforts for natural gas fired power generation Support scoping of new prospective opportunities, evaluating feasibility and permitting pathways across multiple states Assesses permitting risks, provides recommendations to address risk and participates in or runs the approved course of action Work with operations to shape and develop permit conditions and compliance strategies Maintains, improves and provides guidance on environmental processes/policies Coordinates regular environmental planning, scheduling and cost estimating, including preparation of air permitting and air modeling impact assessments Provides guidance and mentorship to others and is involved in industry associations and environmental communities Leads projects or programs with significant risk and complexity to achieve objectives; develops the strategy for project execution and handles resource requirements Other duties as assigned Education/Years of Ex p erience: Environmental Specialist III:   Required : Bachelor’s degree and minimum ( 4) years’ air permitting and compliance experience Environmental Specialist IV: Required : Bachelor’s degree and minimum eight (8) years’ air permitting and compliance experience Preferred: Minimum three (3) years’ experience in air permitting of power and/or other heavy industry projects including evaluation of Prevention of Significant Deterioration and Nonattainment New Source Review. Environmental Specialist V: Required : Bachelor’s degree and minimum fifteen (15) years of air permitting and compliance experience Preferred: Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in air permitting of power and/or other heavy industry projects including Prevention of Significant Deterioration and Nonattainment New Source Review. Other Re q uirements: Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills Preferred: Expertise with project management and stakeholder engagement both within industry as well as with permitting authorities.
