Overview
We are seeking a Director, Global Compensation, to serve as the lead compensation partner for Alnylam’s Global Commercial organization. This individual will provide strategic compensation expertise across base pay, market competitiveness, job architecture, sales incentive compensation, equity compensation, and broader total rewards programs to support a growing commercial business. Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Compensation, this role will partner closely with Commercial leaders, HR Business Partners, Commercial Business Operations, and other key stakeholders to design, evaluate, and evolve compensation programs that support talent attraction, retention, engagement, and business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary compensation business partner to Alnylam’s Global Commercial organization, partnering closely with Commercial leaders, HR Business Partners, and Finance, providing strategic guidance on compensation programs, pay decisions, talent investments, and market competitiveness, and strategies that support business objectives and organizational growth Conduct market analyses, benchmarking, and compensation modeling to support hiring, retention, organizational design, and workforce planning decisions across commercial functions Evaluate the effectiveness and competitiveness of compensation and sales incentive programs and recommend enhancements that align employee rewards with business outcomes Design, recommend, and implement data driven compensation programs by evaluating market practices, trends, regulatory requirements, analyzing costs, and ensuring Alnylam’s competitive advantage in total rewards Provide strategic, consultative thought leadership to the business and HR Business Partners on all compensation matters, including salary management, sales incentive design, total rewards philosophy, programs, policies, job architecture, and creative support of strategic objectives Partner closely with Commercial Operations to provide compensation expertise and strategic guidance on sales incentive plan design, performance measures, quota methodologies, payout governance, contests, and incentive effectiveness to ensure programs are competitive, motivating, compliant, and aligned with business objectives Support the enhancement and evolution of compensation programs aligned with the company’s current lifecycle stage and educate employees on programs across global locations Develop executive-ready analyses, insights, and recommendations to support compensation decisions and leadership review processes Lead complex global compensation projects from conception through implementation, including developing project plans, timelines, stakeholder management, governance, communications, and appropriate change management activities Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to support programs Qualifications Seasoned strategic and operational compensation professional and leader with at least 10 years’ of relevant experience, with the ability to critically assess and evolve existing compensation and sales incentive plans, programs, policies, and processes for a growth-oriented biopharmaceutical company (or similar fast-paced environment) Demonstrated ability to advise, challenge, and influence colleagues and build relationships at all levels of an organization Demonstrated experience supporting commercial organizations leading the design, evaluation, or strategic consultation of compensation and incentive programs, including sales incentive plans Strong understanding of commercial compensation practices, including sales incentive compensation principles, pay-for-performance philosophies, incentive governance, quota-based compensation structures, and market competitiveness Highly analytical, with the ability to evaluate complex data and make informed recommendations.
