Position
Overview Analyze and identify ways and means to improve the effective use of energy consumption across the enterprise. Serve as a key advisor for the company on energy matters when reviewing cost estimates, specifications, drawings, construction documents, building control systems and maintenance repairs and modifications. In addition, they will assist in monitoring of store and corporate facility Energy Management Systems (EMS), and support energy team capital projects totaling over $20M, and $100+ million utility expense budget. A Day in the Life Mechanical Design Review & Engineering Consultation Review and evaluate mechanical, HVAC, and controls drawings for new stores, downsizes, relocations, and capital projects to ensure alignment with company engineering standards, operational requirements, and long-term sustainability objectives. Partner with Construction, Store Design, Architects, and Engineers of Record (EORs) throughout the design process to review equipment selections, system sizing, control strategies, and mechanical specifications, particularly for complex or non-standard projects. Provide engineering recommendations that optimize building performance, improve maintainability, reduce lifecycle costs, and incorporate energy-efficient solutions from the earliest stages of design. HVAC, EMS/BAS & Technical Support Serve as the department’s mechanical engineering resource, utilizing Energy Management System (EMS) platforms, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and analytical software to monitor, triage, and troubleshoot HVAC and controls-related issues across the store portfolio. Investigate abnormal system behavior, recurring operational issues, and complex technical challenges to identify root causes and develop sustainable corrective actions. Partner with internal teams and vendors to improve system performance, optimize control strategies, and drive consistency and standardization across EMS platforms, building automation systems, and mechanical control sequences. Support enterprise-wide operational efficiency, reliability, and consistency through effective HVAC and controls solutions. Mechanical Engineering Consulting & Optimization Partner with vendor teams and internal HVAC stakeholders to review load calculations, equipment submittals, HVAC system options, and retrofit strategies. Support end-of-life rooftop unit (RTU) replacement programs by evaluating equipment selections, replacement strategies, right-sizing opportunities, and emerging technologies. Recommend reliable, cost-effective, and energy-efficient mechanical solutions that support long-term building performance. Project Management & Project Support Provide end-to-end project management for assigned capital projects, including project planning, scope development, budgeting, scheduling, vendor coordination, execution, commissioning, and project closeout. Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company engineering standards. Provide mechanical engineering expertise for capital projects managed by other members of the Sustainability team, including design reviews, equipment evaluations, technical issue resolution, and implementation support. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, vendors, and project partners to ensure successful project execution and delivery. You'll Come With Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, energy engineering or related field; plus, a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field or Master’s degree. PMP, CEM or PE, preferred but not required. Extensive understanding of commercial HVAC systems, building controls, and mechanical building systems, including rooftop units (RTUs), boilers, chillers, and Building Automation/Energy Management Systems (BAS/EMS), with a functional understanding of electrical building systems as they relate to HVAC equipment and controls.
