Leads the technical accounting and policy function responsible for researching, evaluating, documenting, and communicating complex accounting matters, including new accounting standards, non-routine transactions, accounting policy development and maintenance, and lease accounting under ASC 842. The Manager, Technical Accounting & Policy serves as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, supports strategic and cross-functional transactions, and helps ensure accounting conclusions are aligned with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, FERC requirements, rate-regulated accounting considerations, and internal control expectations. Essential Functions
•Lead a team of technical accounting analysts responsible for researching, evaluating, and documenting complex and non-routine transactions under U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, FERC requirements, and rate-regulated accounting guidance. •Advise business, accounting, and executive stakeholders on the accounting implications of strategic transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, capital markets activity, contract arrangements, regulatory matters, and other enterprise initiatives. •Monitor developments in U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, FERC requirements, rate-regulated accounting guidance, and industry accounting practices; assess the impact of new and emerging accounting standards and communicate practical implications to management. •Oversee the ASC 842 lease accounting process, including evaluation of new and modified arrangements, technical accounting conclusions, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement disclosures, and related SOX controls. •Manage the development, review, approval, maintenance, and communication of accounting policies; perform periodic reviews of existing policies to assess effectiveness, consistency of application, and alignment with changing accounting, regulatory, and business requirements. •Manage ad-hoc technical accounting, policy, reporting, and process improvement projects by applying strong project management, analytical, and communication skills with management and cross-functional stakeholders.
Education
Description
Bachelor of Science or Business Administration degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business from an accredited college or university. CPA required. Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant accounting experience required; public accounting experience preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of managerial or supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and technical accounting research and documentation. Experience developing, maintaining, and communicating accounting policies and related implementation guidance. Utility, energy, regulated industry, FERC accounting, or rate-regulated accounting experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex accounting matters to non-accounting stakeholders. Experience in project management and process improvements with strong organizational skills. Strong attention to detail, with a proven ability to
