AVP of Payroll Distribution, Small Business The AVP of Payroll will play a pivotal role in executing The Hartford’s Small Business Sales & Distribution Strategy. This is a large and exciting space for The Hartford and will include partnering The Hartford’s 2 largest payroll partners with potential to own all of payroll billing distribution within Small Business in the next 18-24 months. An AVP of Payroll will fully embrace the fast-moving ever-changing market to find new ways to grow within payroll while having 2 direct reports immediately and 2+ additional if/when own all of payroll billing distribution. This role will report to Head of Payroll, Alliances, and Small Business Programs Distribution, and can be based remotely within the United States.
Key Responsibilities
Managing P&L for The Hartford’s 2 largest payroll partners: ~60% including: Exceeding growth targets while maintaining target returns Building and executing strategic priorities Creating complex compensation deals and contracts Developing new growth opportunities Partner forecasting Mentoring and leadership of direct reports: ~25% Ownership of Product, Sales, Underwriting (PSU) meetings and partnership meetings: ~15% In addition to above responsibilities, this role may lead all of payroll partner management including being the business lead for payroll billing products XactPAY & Composite Billing and business development of new payroll partners Qualifications Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Small Business sales, underwriting, operations, or partner management required 5+ years of experience leading and managing a team either directly or indirectly Knowledgeable of Small Business Insurance with Payroll/HCM industry as a plus Exceptional sales, relationship management, organizational and leadership skills Must demonstrate strategic thinking as well as "roll up your sleeves" action Excellent persuasive communication skills and the ability to influence high-level decision makers both inside and outside of the organization Demonstrated capability to create and deliver executive level presentations with appropriate balance of depth and clarity Demonstrated ability to solve complex business problems and proven experience using and interpreting data to support decisions and recommendations Ability to identify business trends, changes in market conditions, and competitor activity and respond accordingly Proven ability to lead change and comfort in a complex environment; will need to be at ease with shifting priorities, many unknowns, and limited direction Ability to manage conflict, negotiate and create compelling business arguments Ability to influence diverse teams and building strong business relationships Ability to collaborate with and understand the needs of senior leadership and their staff- and translating those needs into actionable plans Strong ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed environment with exceptional influencing skills to gain support for new ideas and approaches required Ability to move fast and not get overwhelmed Willing and able to travel as required; 10%-20% of the time; travel requirements to be discussed This role is a 100% Remote work schedule. Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
