The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing and maintaining workplace health and safety programs that ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position supports a steel distribution and processing facility by promoting a culture of safety, managing workplace injuries, managing regulatory compliance, and overseeing fleet safety operations throughout California. The Safety Coordinator works closely with management, supervisors, employees, and contractors to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve safety performance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain and administer company safety policies, programs, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, FMCSA, and applicable California regulations. Conduct routine facility inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety audits throughout the warehouse, processing, shipping, receiving, and fleet operations. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of steel distribution center operations, including material handling, overhead cranes, forklifts, loading and unloading procedures, rigging, storage systems, and steel processing equipment. Ensure compliance with all Cal/OSHA regulations, including but not limited to: Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) Hazard Communication (HazCom) Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Machine Guarding Walking-Working Surfaces Powered Industrial Trucks Respiratory Protection Heat Illness Prevention Bloodborne Pathogens Emergency Action Plans Fire Prevention Confined Space Awareness Fall Protection Confined spaces Environmental health and safety pertaining to California Lead accident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Coordinate safety meetings, toolbox talks, employee orientations, and ongoing safety training programs. Conduct new employee safety onboarding and annual compliance training. Monitor contractor safety compliance while working on company property. Partner with supervisors to identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective and preventive actions. Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management activities. Maintain compliance with environmental health and safety requirements as applicable. Stay current on changes to OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and California employment safety regulations. Fleet Safety Responsibilities Manage and support the company's fleet safety program for commercial and non-commercial vehicles operating throughout California. Ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), California Highway Patrol (CHP), California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and California DMV regulations. Monitor driver qualification files, motor vehicle records (MVRs), licensing requirements, medical certifications, and Hours of Service compliance as applicable. Coordinate fleet inspections, preventive maintenance schedules, and vehicle safety inspections. Investigate vehicle accidents and implement corrective action plans. Administer defensive driving and fleet safety training. Monitor telematics, driver behavior, and vehicle safety performance metrics.
