Meet the Team The Splunk Metadata Catalog (MDC) team is part of the core Splunk Platform organization. We are building a high-scale Knowledge Graph that empowers Splunk users to discover data assets effortlessly, map complex relationships, and trace data lineage across diverse ecosystems. You will join a fast-paced, high-impact team pioneering foundational technology central to the Cisco Data Fabric strategy. As a Senior Engineer, you will shape architectural decisions and build systems that scale across enterprise-grade data platforms.
Your impact
As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you will: E nd-to-End Feature Delivery: own development, and implementation of complex, high-impact features and microservices within the Metadata Catalog platform. Collaborate on System Architecture: Partner with Technical Leaders and Architects to translate product requirements into modular, scalable, and resilient distributed components. Build for Scale & High Performance: optimize robust, low-latency applications capable of managing large-scale graph relationships and data lineage queries. Drive Quality & Engineering Excellence: Champion a Developer Owned Quality mindset within the team by authoring comprehensive unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure high product reliability. Operational & Production Ownership: Take active ownership of services in production-monitoring service health, debugging complex distributed issues, participating in on-call rotations, and driving post-incident reviews. Technical Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through detailed code reviews and design discussions, fostering continuous learning and engineering rigor across the team.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & experience: Bachelor's in computer science / related field + 6 years of related experience, or Masters + 3 years of related experience Software Development & Debugging: Strong hands-on proficiency in an object-oriented or systems language (such as Go, Java, or C++ ), with proven experience designing, developing, and debugging production-grade services. Cloud & Container Technologies: Demonstrated experience building and operating cloud-native microservices using AWS, Azure, or GCP , alongside containerization and orchestration tools ( Docker, Kubernetes ). Distributed Systems Foundations: Solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, concurrency, distributed systems architecture, and RESTful / gRPC API design. CI/CD & Agile Rigor: Proven background delivering software in fast-paced Agile environments with automated testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Reliability & Performance Focus: Track record of diagnosing and solving performance bottlenecks and ensuring high availability in distributed environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Graph Databases & Technologies: Hands-on experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, AWS Neptune, Apache AGE ) and query languages/frameworks (e.g., Cypher, Gremlin, GraphQL ). Data Lineage & Metadata: Experience with metadata catalogs , data governance frameworks, schema registries, or knowledge graph platforms. E vent Streaming: Familiarity with distributed message brokers and streaming platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ ). Observability: Experience instrumenting services with observability metrics, distributed tracing, and logging frameworks (e.g., OpenTelemetry , Prometheus, Splunk). Collaboration & Adaptability: Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across distributed global engineering teams in an evolving technical landscape.
