About this role
Standard Job Description Mass Properties Engineering is the disciplined practice of predicting, controlling, and verifying a vehicle’s mass properties—weight, CG, and inertia—before, during, and after production. From early trade studies through final flight-test validation, we maintain strict weight baselines and margin compliance to ensure mission success. Our work directly enables strategic missiles to intercept threats with pinpoint accuracy, satellites to reach and maintain assigned orbits, and directed energy weapons to be effectively deployed across varied platforms. Through CAD analysis, weight budgeting, and highly accurate measurement, we provide the data customers rely on for mission assurance and system optimization. As a Mass Properties Associate Manager , You will be: • Lead talent management for the mass properties team: recruitment, onboarding, performance assessment, work allocation, and career development. • Coach, mentor, and develop junior engineers in mass properties analysis, verification, and control methodologies. • Provide senior-level Mass Properties Engineering support across multiple missile, reentry, and special program portfolios. • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and senior leadership to integrate mass properties requirements into system design, analysis, and test activities. • Offer technical guidance to program management, interdisciplinary peers, and customers to ensure successful program performance and compliance. • Serve as internal technical consultant to program stakeholders, aligning technical baselines, weight budgets, and customer requirements with LM standards. Manages the research, planning, design and development of mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Directs application of research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Basic Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace), Physics, or Mathematics • Proven ability to plan, propose and coordinate work and personnel across multiple projects and organizational structures • Experience leading and mentoring junior engineers in mass properties analysis, verification, and control, with the ability to teach fundamentals and spot technical issues across program lifecycles • Technical leadership experience and the ability to address cost and schedule challenges • Experience preparing for and supporting design reviews (PDR/CDR) and technical baseline activities • Ability to Interpret detailed mechanism designs taken from manufacturing drawings or standard modeling software tools • Active Secret Clearance required prior to start Desired Skills • Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace), Physics, or Mathematics • Ability to work in a collaborative and highly integrated team environment • Understanding of interactions of Mass Properties with other mechanical analysis groups including Stress, Structural Loads and Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Aerodynamics, NG&C, Ground Support Equipment, Propulsion and Power Systems, as well as subsystem designers • Ability and desire to assume ownership of tasks and drive to closure quickly and efficiently • Technical expertise in sophisticated Mass Properties analysis, including identification and quantification of error sources in accuracy and uncertainty analysis • Proficiency in calculating the Mass Properties (mass, 3 axis centers of gravity, moments and products of inertia) of components and performing summation calculations into
