Job Description
The Software Systems Engineer contributes to the design, development, and maintenance of software for new and existing ASICs and related systems. This role supports the development of system-level software components, troubleshoots software issues, and collaborates with hardware teams to ensure effective hardware and software integration. Working as part of a broader engineering team, the engineer helps deliver reliable, high-quality, and cost-effective software solutions while contributing to product performance, functionality, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to software enhancements, updates, and programming changes for systems software components, including operating systems, networking utilities, databases, development tools, and diagnostic applications. Analyze assigned designs and identify coding, development, testing, and integration activities required to meet project objectives. Execute and document test plans, protocols, and validation activities for assigned software components. Identify, troubleshoot, and debug software defects, recommending improvements and corrective actions. Participate as a member of cross-functional project teams consisting of software engineers and internal or external development partners. Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to communicate project status, technical issues, and solution progress. Contribute to the development and maintenance of APIs and hardware abstraction layers (HAL) that enable efficient software and hardware interaction. Support software performance optimization initiatives to improve the operation and efficiency of ASICs within network switching environments. Partner with hardware design teams to facilitate integration, functionality validation, and issue resolution. Perform testing and debugging activities for assigned Software Development Kit (SDK) components to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance. Provide technical support and maintain documentation for SDK users and developers.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline. Typically 2 to 4 years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, embedded systems, or a related technical field. Technical Knowledge and Skills Software Development and Programming Experience with software systems design and development using: C Rust Go Python Familiarity with real-time embedded operating systems and system-level software development. Ability to contribute to the design and implementation of software solutions across multiple platforms and environments. Testing and Debugging Experience applying software testing methodologies, including: Test plan execution Software validation Debugging and troubleshooting Test automation tools and scripts Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve software defects and performance issues. Hardware and System Integration Understanding of hardware/software integration principles and associated development practices. Experience supporting software
