About this role

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and their servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. We have an immediate opening for a Project Design Controls Engineer in Sydney. If you meet these qualifications, exude passion, and enjoy the challenge of innovative projects at hyper-scale, this job is for you! As a Controls Engineer within the Fleet Remediation Engineering (FRE) team, you will lead the design, specification, and implementation of Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) controls solutions for data center retrofit projects. You will bridge the gap between mechanical/electrical retrofit design and controls integration, ensuring that upgraded systems are properly monitored, controlled, and optimized across our existing fleet. This role combines deep controls engineering expertise with the fleet remediation mission of evolving our data centers to meet ever-changing customer needs at hyper-scale. You will use your Controls expertise to: • Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions which add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability. • Develop and maintain deep expertise in building operations, mechanical plant strategies, BMS/EPMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC systems, electrical lineups, one-line diagrams, and complex environmental concepts. • Perform design and equipment submittal review for Data Centers in your region. • Interface with internal and external data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered. • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions. • Act as a technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects. • Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover. Key job responsibilities Amazon's vision is to be the world's most customer-centric company, and this role is key to that vision. As a Fleet Remediation Project Design Controls Engineer, you will be leading projects to fit out our data centers to meet ever-evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale. As an ideal candidate you: • Lead controls design and integration for mechanical and electrical retrofit projects across the existing data center fleet, ensuring BMS and EPMS systems are properly specified, programmed, and commissioned. • Develop and maintain controls design standards, specifications, and scope of work (SOW) documents specific to fleet remediation retrofit projects, aligning with global design standards. • Collaborate with FRE mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, construction teams, commissioning, and operations stakeholders to deliver integrated controls solutions that support retrofit objectives. • Serve as the central technical authority for BMS/EPMS controls within FRE, managing and prioritizing controls
