About this role
Position
Summary The Sr. Engineering Manager, Platform & Hardware Engineering leads cross-PBU hardware platforming initiatives, driving adoption of standardized MCU/MPU platforms, component part-elimination programs, and design-for-excellence (DFX) practices across the organization. This role bridges Central Engineering, PBU engineering teams, Procurement, and external contract manufacturers (CMs) to ensure engineering scope is delivered on time, within schedule and quality targets. The role also drives innovation culture, mentors engineering talent, and supports organizational health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Platform Delivery & Chip Strategy · Own end-to-end delivery of MCU/MPU platform adoption across PBUs, including supply chain readiness and factory release. · Lead program management for the Chip Strategy initiative, including cadence calls, financial reviews, and quality discussions with factory and design partners. · Drive release of platform designs (e.g., SMARC, SoM modules) to manufacturing, including DVT, FCC pre-screening, and ECN/FCN readiness. · Manage platform sustainability across hardware, software, and test-station domains, coordinating with factories on production and component availability. Component Risk Management & Supplier Part Reduction (SPR) · Lead the Microchip exit / part-elimination program: identifying alternates, driving ECN discussions, and validating alternates through SPR. · Perform lifecycle risk analysis across NPI BoMs and secure validated alternates for single-source components. · Define and maintain SPR governance — templates, RACI structure, and NPI documentation standards — integrated with program dashboards. DFX & Design Standardization · Lead DFX reviews to improve manufacturability (e.g., THT-to-SMD conversions) with PBU design teams. · Drive design-standardization efforts across PBUs: reusable hardware blocks, ECAD requirements frameworks, GPL library expansion, and common power/PoE/interface standards. · Identify and scope new platforming opportunities aligned with organizational strategy (e.g., Book of Work planning). Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Leadership · Act as technical lead and primary liaison between Engineering, Procurement, PBUs, and external CMs. · Facilitate quarterly cross-PBU workshops and design review forums. · Present business cases and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership to secure adoption commitments. Innovation & Talent Development · Champion an innovation culture, including Tech Challenge participation, invention disclosures, and cross-PBU innovation teams. · Coordinate innovation workshops and support idea screening as an SME. · Support team training (40+ hours/employee), mentor engineers on technical processes, and drive recognition programs (Bravo/R&R). · Promote and support participation in organizational health surveys. Performance Measures · 100% on-time delivery of committed engineering scope · Schedule variance ≤ 7% · Defect rate ≤ 5% · 100% participation in scheduled program review meetings · 10–15% throughput improvement on repeat task types via lessons learned · Measurable cost savings and unit-adoption commitments from platform/part-elimination initiatives · Active contribution to invention disclosures and innovation programs Required Qualifications · Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (advanced degree a plus) · Significant experience in hardware platform engineering, embedded systems (MCU/MPU), or NPI program management · Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional/cross-PBU engineering programs · Experience with supplier/component risk management (SPR, BOM lifecycle analysis, AML) · Strong understanding of DFX principles, ECAD tooling, and PCB/module design practices · Program/project management experience; PMP, PMI-RMP, or Scrum/Product Owner certification preferred Core Competencies · Execution Discipline
