About this role
Sustainability Lead1 Role Overview As a TE6 Enterprise Technical Sustainability Lead, you will serve as the technical authority driving the design, architecture, and technology execution of enterprise-wide ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainability platforms. Operating at the intersection of green software engineering, modern data infrastructure, and climate technology, you will own the end-to-end technical strategy for tracking, measuring, reporting, and optimizing corporate environmental impact. At the TE6 level, you will architect solutions to capture Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, establish green cloud computing standards, integrate automated reporting frameworks, and lead cross-functional engineering teams to embed sustainability into core business systems.
Key Responsibilities
ESG Data & Architecture Strategy: Design and deploy automated enterprise-wide ESG data platforms (Lakehouses/Data Warehouses) to ingest, normalize, and validate complex environmental metrics across cloud, supply chain, facility, and operational systems. Build real-time carbon accounting engines and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) telemetry to measure greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy consumption. Regulatory Reporting & Compliance Tech: Architect automated data reporting solutions compliant with global regulations and frameworks (e.g., CSRD, SEC ESG Disclosures, BRSR, GRI, TCFD, and GHG Protocol). Implement automated auditability, data lineage, and validation pipelines for third-party ESG assurance and compliance reviews. Sustainable Tech & Green Engineering: Lead sustainable IT initiatives—including cloud carbon footprint optimization (FinOps + GreenOps), green software development practices, and carbon-aware workload scheduling. Partner with procurement and supply chain engineering to integrate Scope 3 vendor emissions tracking into supplier onboarding systems. Leadership & Stakeholder Alignment: Translate complex climate science, regulatory standards, and ESG requirements into technical software specifications and execution roadmaps. Advise C-suite leadership, Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs), and product executives on technical risks, energy efficiency investments, and decarbonization technology opportunities. Qualifications & Experience Area Requirement Experience 12–16+ years of total software engineering/data architecture experience, with 4+ years leading technical sustainability, carbon accounting platforms, or enterprise ESG data pipelines.
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Environmental Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. ESG Tech Stack Hands-on experience with ESG suites (e.g., Microsoft Sustainability Manager, Salesforce Net Zero Cloud, IBM Envizi, SAP Sustainability Control Tower, or custom data platforms). Data & Cloud Deep technical expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), SQL/Python, ETL/ELT pipelines, Snowflake, Databricks, and carbon accounting APIs. Frameworks Thorough knowledge of GHG Protocol standards, CSRD, GRI, TCFD, and ISO 14064 metrics integration.
