Overview: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Software Engineering Manager to drive the strategic execution and delivery of Multifamily application platforms and full-stack digital capabilities built on modern Java-based microservices architecture, ensuring alignment with business objectives, seamless integration, compliance with regulations, and operational excellence. Our Impact: Freddie Mac's Multifamily division advances affordable rental housing by purchasing apartment loans from a national network of lenders and transforming those loans into securities that attract global investors. The Multifamily Technology Team plays a critical role in this mission by: Enabling Multifamily business teams to operate more efficiently through secure, scalable, and user-focused digital applications that support critical business processes across loan acquisition, asset management, securitization, risk, and portfolio operations. Modernizing application platforms and reducing manual dependencies to improve usability, operational efficiency, scalability, reliability, and confidence in the technology capabilities that support critical Multifamily business processes. Deliver secure, resilient, auditable, and well-architected platform capabilities that business teams can depend on to operate at scale, manage risk, meet regulatory expectations, and support long-term Multifamily growth.
Your Impact
As a Software Engineering Manager, you will collaborate closely with Product Owners and business partners to deliver modern application platform capabilities that meet evolving end-user needs. You will lead multiple agile squads in designing and implementing resilient full-stack applications, APIs, and microservices-based solutions, while applying strong software engineering rigor through scalable design, automated testing, and operational excellence. In this leadership role, you will provide practical technical direction, drive continuous improvement, and identify opportunities to simplify delivery, improve efficiency, and strengthen the overall quality of Multifamily technology solutions.
What you will be doing
Lead multiple agile squads responsible for delivering modern full-stack application capabilities, including user-facing applications, APIs, microservices, integration services, platform modernization, and production enhancements. Provide technical direction across squads by guiding solution design, reviewing implementation approaches, and helping teams make scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable engineering decisions. Partner closely with Product Owners, architecture, business stakeholders, and cross-functional technology teams to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver business outcomes. Drive the design and implementation of Java-based microservices, REST APIs, front-end applications, and integration services using modern technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Angular or React, SQL, relational databases, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks. Create proofs of concept, demos, and prototypes to evaluate emerging technologies, validate new ideas, and accelerate adoption of modern engineering patterns and platform capabilities.
