About this Role Ampacity is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to lead the rebuild and modernization of our data platform. This hands-on role will design and implement a scalable Azure and Databricks-based lakehouse that supports reporting, analytics, and business growth. Reporting to the Senior Director of Technology, this person will own the platform’s technical direction and help hire and mentor future data team members as the function grows.
Pay Range: $120,000 - $130,000 Hybrid Model: 1-2 days at Georgia Technology Office What You'll Do
Lead the rebuild of Ampacity’s data platform from design through implementation
Stabilize and maintain existing Azure Data Factory pipelines while leading their migration into the new Databricks lakehouse
Develop a Databricks lakehouse using Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and bronze/silver/gold architecture
Design data models that accurately track changes over time
Build data transformation and integration logic using SQL and Python
Set standards for version control, testing, documentation, and deployments
Partner with business and technology teams to understand their data needs
Monitor data quality and troubleshoot pipeline or performance issues
Lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers
Help hire and develop future data team members as the function grows
Take on additional responsibilities as the role evolves and new learning and growth opportunities come up
What You'll Bring
5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience
Strong experience designing pipelines in Azure Data Factory
Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and medallion architecture
Strong SQL skills and experience with Python or another scripting language
A solid understanding of data modeling and historical data tracking — able to design data pipelines that accurately reflect how data changes over time
Experience building or moving to a modern lakehouse from ADF, SSIS, Informatica, or a similar ETL tool
Experience using Git-based version control for data pipelines or ETL code
Experience leading projects and helping junior engineers grow
The ability to work independently and as part of a small team
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Experience with ERP systems is a plus—NetSuite is preferred, but SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics experience is also helpful
Experience with Power BI, CI/CD, modern data transformation tools, or managed ingestion tools such as Fivetran, Estuary, or Airbyte is a plus
Experience leading a greenfield build or major data platform rebuild is strongly preferred
