Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join the Grid Code Integration team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role within the Caterpillar Electric Power, Prime Power Customer Solutions team. The Grid Code Integration team is responsible for understanding global grid codes, facilitating evaluation of technical requirements and product capability, and managing grid code certification of Caterpillar Electric Power products including gas and diesel generating sets, hybrid products such as the modular Power Conversion System (mPCS) and the range of Cat Energy Control System (ECS) controls. The team is expanding to include Electric Power Simulation responsibility for gas and diesel gensets and site-level studies related to grid code, fault ride-through, and large scale datacenter architecture development. This role provides a unique opportunity for a Senior Engineer to develop their understanding of large-scale Electric Power projects and apply their simulation skills within an experienced team working on various Electric Power Simulation initiatives. For the right candidate, this role will include opportunities to collaborate with multiple Engineering teams and stakeholders across the Large Electric Power Solutions (LEPS), Large Power Systems Division (LPSD), Electrification and Energy Solutions (E+ES) and Solar Turbines teams to facilitate asset level and site-level simulation studies. As the Senior Engineer for Electric Power Simulations, you will primarily lead the development of gas and diesel genset simulation models in various software applications, including development of models representing the various components (engine, generator, controls). You will collaborate with other Simulation Engineers across multiple divisions to plan and execute the development of validated simulation models and execute site-level simulation studies to support customer requests. You will be expected to work with limited supervision to complete simulation model development, perform simulation studies, support process efficiency initiatives, update and maintain simulation models and supporting documentation, and support customers by responding to technical sales support requests.
What you will do
Lead the development and validation of simulation models for Caterpillar Electric Power gas and diesel generating sets in various software applications including DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E and MATLAB Simulink. Execute site-level simulation studies and mixed-asset system modelling, collaborating with teams across various divisions including LPSD, E+ES, and Solar Turbines. Drive process efficiency by developing and implementing tools, methods, and standardized workflows for simulation modelling. Maintain simulation models and relevant technical sales support documentation. Support customers by responding to simulation modelling requests. Support development and evaluation of relevant codes and standards; collaborate with subject matter experts across Caterpillar and externally to maintain compliance with existing and emerging technical standards. Provide mentoring and coaching to team members on the use of simulation software and the development and application of simulation models for unit level and site level simulation studies. Your profile – what you will bring: Power Systems Simulation Modelling : experience of developing simulation models of electrical power systems using
