The Connect Telecom Engineering team is responsible for provisioning and maintaining connectivity to global telecom carriers, managing the backend telecom infrastructure, and troubleshooting customer issues related to telephony. Our team owns the Session Border Controller (SBC) service used to route calls between Amazon Connect and telecom carriers, ensuring reliable delivery of voice services and telecommunications systems that connect millions of customer interactions worldwide. We have a rapidly growing customer base and an exciting charter that includes solving highly complex engineering and algorithmic problems in the telephony domain. We are looking for a passionate and talented Software Development Engineer to join us to innovate on the telecom infrastructure that powers Amazon Connect's voice capabilities. Amazon Connect Customer is an agentic solution that helps enterprises deliver exceptional customer experiences at every touchpoint. Amazon Connect Customer's underlying telephony provides superior reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness through connections to 40+ carriers on the AWS global backbone. Through this network, customers access inbound number coverage across 160 countries, in-country outbound calling in 60+ countries, and international dialing for 200+ countries, eliminating the need to manage legacy dependencies like separate carrier contracts, on-premises session border controllers, or per-trunk capacity planning. Amazon Connect Telephony is the target end-state architecture for all deployments and natively supports instance-to-instance transfer, shared trunking, and external voice transfer to accommodate complex migrations. Key job responsibilities As a developer on our team, you'll own code end-to-end from design to development, and work closely with technical leaders within the team and across AWS. You'll have a sound understanding of computer science fundamentals and practical industry experience, working across the stack with technologies involving SIP/VoIP, modern web services, SOA, NoSQL databases, and distributed systems at scale. A day in the life 1. Evaluate design decisions that make telecom systems secure, scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available with low latency. 2. Implement software solutions for carrier connectivity, call routing, and telecom infrastructure automation. 3. Improve the operational excellence of the services the team owns, including the SBC platform and carrier management systems. 4. Provide cross-team impact by mentoring others, participating in operations, design reviews, document reviews, and contributing to team/org goals.
