About this role
Description - External Do you want to serve a higher purpose? Are you looking for a career and not just another job? The people at Industrial Scientific are making a difference. We believe great people, with great tools in a supportive environment, deliver better products and services and do their best work for our customers. Our leaders understand the critical elements of breakthrough performance: bringing out the best in people; creating a climate of trust, openness and high performance; fostering candor and initiative; and treating people fairly and with dignity. Industrial Scientific provides the environment, leadership, and support that enable employees to exceed their career expectations. Industrial Scientific’s product development team includes skilled engineers, designers, and technicians in electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering. We use third-party design partners (both locally and abroad) to augment our in-house team or provide specific expertise. For the most part, we build what we design – often in our modern manufacturing factory right here in Western Pennsylvania. We design and develop a wide variety of world-class gas detection instruments, sensors, accessories, and infrastructure for worker connectivity and remote management. Our designs include the latest mixed-signal embedded computing technology, mechanical packaging, miniaturization, and compelling user interfaces. We partner with a dedicated in-house application software team to provide feature-rich web-based applications that help our customers keep their workers safe. The Staff Electrical Engineer, Wireless/RF/EMC , is a project-level technical leader responsible for the electrical and wireless technical outcomes of new product development and platform initiatives. The role leads the definition, architecture, integration, verification, and certification readiness of wireless and mixed-signal electrical systems, with particular emphasis on RF performance, antenna integration, wireless coexistence, signal and power integrity, and EMC/EMI risk. This engineer translates product and business needs into electrical and wireless technical strategies, aligns cross-functional teams on interfaces and technical risks, and drives evidence-based decisions from concept through production release. The position may serve as the Electrical Technical Lead or Functional Lead for a project, coordinating the work of multiple engineers and external partners without direct people-management responsibility. The role also develops reusable design practices, review methods, and technical guidance that improve quality and reduce recurring design and certification issues across projects. Crucial Duties and Responsibilities: The duties may include but are not limited to: Define and decompose system, electrical, wireless, and regulatory requirements into robust product architectures and technical solutions. Lead the design, integration, verification, and release of wireless, RF, mixed-signal, and battery-powered electrical systems. Serve as a technical lead on cross-functional development projects, driving alignment across electrical, firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and certification teams. Identify and mitigate technical risks related to RF performance, wireless coexistence, EMC/EMI, signal integrity, power integrity, reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance. Develop and review technical documentation, verification evidence, and design review materials to support product maturity, certification readiness, and production release. Drive root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues affecting product performance, quality, certification, and manufacturing readiness. Establish and improve engineering standards, best practices, and reusable design approaches while mentoring and providing technical guidance to other engineers. Collaborate with customers, suppliers, certification agencies, and development partners to support
