Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. Weekly hours may fluctuate depending on business needs. We’re looking for an In-House Legal Counsel I to join our growing team! What you’ll do here: Handle insurance litigation files of varying complexities from beginning to conclusion. Draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits and other legal documents to support applications, mediations, judicial settlement conferences and trials. Independently prepare and conduct applications, discoveries, mediations, arbitration, pre-trial conferences and trials. Prepare and present legal educational seminars to the claims department and help your Intact colleagues from other departments on inquiries. Maintain productive and effective communications with claims department and adjusters. What you bring to the table: Member in good standing of the Law Society. Minimum of 2 years of insurance litigation experience. Experience in legal research and writing, including authorship of legal opinions. Experience in drafting pleadings, conducting discoveries, mediations, application documents and pre-hearing memoranda. Proficiency in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes. Trial experience, particularly independent trial experience, is a definite asset. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, combined with research and negotiation experience. Have superior organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple case files simultaneously.
