The opportunity Join EY's Tax Controversy Practice as a Senior Manager and play a leading role in helping clients navigate complex tax matters, manage engagements with revenue authorities, and achieve effective dispute prevention and resolution outcomes. In this role, you will advise a diverse client portfolio, including ASX-listed companies, multinational organisations, privately owned businesses, and high-net-worth individuals. You will work on technically challenging matters while partnering closely with clients and colleagues across service lines to deliver practical, commercially focused solutions. This is a hybrid position based in Naarm - Melbourne, Warrang -Sydney, Boorloo – Perth or Meanjin – Brisbane . Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options. Your key responsibilities As a trusted advisor and leader within the team, you will:
Lead and advise clients on interactions with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) helping them navigate reviews, audits, disputes, and regulatory engagements. Manage complex tax controversy matters, including objections, private binding ruling applications, litigation, alternative dispute resolution processes, and other strategic resolution pathways. Provide clear, practical advice on technical tax and tax administration issues through robust legal and tax research, analysis, and problem solving. Build strong client relationships while developing and mentoring team members, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and high-quality client service outcomes.

Skills and attributes for success We're looking for individuals who bring strong technical capability, sound professional judgement, and a collaborative approach to client service.
A law degree and admission to practise in Australia, together with relevant post-qualification experience. Strong tax technical knowledge and legal research capabilities. The ability to interpret complex issues, think critically, and apply technical concepts in practical and commercially effective ways. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities across different clients, engagements, and deadlines. A collaborative leadership style and a commitment to developing and supporting others.
Ideally, you'll also bring
Experience gained within a tax advisory, tax controversy, legal, professional services, or similar environment. A solution-focused mindset and strong problem-solving capability. Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to broaden your experience across a variety of tax controversy matters and client situations.
