PRODUCT ENGINEER - MECHANISM SOUTHFIELD, MI – IN-PERSON   As a member of the Seating Structures team, the Product Engineer will be responsible for developing seat structure & mechanisms for a new automotive vehicle program.  This engineer will work on-site at the seat system provider in Southfield, Michigan.   The Role: Your work will include, but not be limited to:

Lead the design, development, and engineering activities for assigned seat mechanisms from concept through launch. Ensure compliance of the mechanism design with all vehicle attributes, regulations, customer requirements, and specified program targets. Work closely with structures and seat complete teams on integration of mechanism(s) into seat system. Utilize disciplined engineering practices to deliver products with robust functionality, performance, and manufacturability. Provide product support to existing mechanisms in serial production to drive continuous improvement. Collaborate with Global Mechanism teams on new product designs / issue resolution.

Your Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related degree. Minimum 5-7 years’ experience working with automotive safety mechanisms in lead role; preferably discontinuous / continuous recliners and/or seat latches. Strong mechanical aptitude and intuitive understanding of mechanisms, motion, and kinematics. Experience using mechanical design and analytical tools in mechanism development. Perform engineering analysis (stack-ups, calculations, and design studies) as required. Incorporate DFA / DFM principles in product design utilizing strong understanding of manufacturing processes. Apply approved design guidelines, best practices and lessons learned into product designs. Proficient in related computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, 3D CAD viewing. CAD modeling preferred but not required. Solid understanding of metal and plastic component design, as well as metal joining processes (welding, riveting, fasteners, etc.) Working knowledge and application of GD&T principles.

Mechanism product launch experience. Demonstrated root cause and problem-solving skills using proven techniques. Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills. Ability to work independently and make sound, data driven decisions. Occasional travel required within the US and internationally.
