About this role

Overview A Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing material testing, quality control analysis, and laboratory support activities to support compounded plastic material that meet customer specifications and manufacturing standards. The role supports production, process optimization, product development, and troubleshooting through accurate testing, data analysis, and reporting. Responsibilities

Performs physical, mechanical, thermal, and rheological testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished compounds. Conduct common polymer tests such as:

Melt Flow Index (MFI/MFR) Density and specific gravity Moisture content Ash/filler content Tensile and flexural properties Impact testing (Izod/Charpy) Color and appearance evaluations Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

Extrusion Molding Prepare samples and operates laboratory equipment according to established procedures. Accurately records, analyzes, and reports test results in laboratory information systems and quality databases. Provides accurate and timely quality data to support production Demonstrates compliance with lab procedures and recordkeeping/documentation requirements. Execute accurate calculations and reporting. Assists with process trials and customer investigations. Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and testing equipment. Assists with investigations of nonconforming materials and assists with root cause analysis efforts. Maintain laboratory housekeeping, chemical inventories, and documentation in compliance with safety and quality requirements. Adheres to all environmental, health, safety, and quality management systems.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. A minimum of 6 months work experience in manufacturing lab is preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Must demonstrate minimum color aptitude by scoring a 50 or lower using the Farnsworth-Munsell Hue Test. Laboratory Management will also assess results screening for color deficiencies as outlined in the FM-100 test method. One re-test may be permitted. Ability to multitask (manage multiple simultaneous samples in organized high quality environment) is required. Must be able to lift 55 lbs. Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures and instructions. Basic computer skills using Microsoft applications. Good verbal and written communication skills.
