The engineering team is responsible for the mechanical design, integration, testing, and support of complex electromechanical systems used in advanced medical imaging applications. Team members work across product development activities, from concept design through prototype builds, verification testing, and system readiness. This position is based in Boxborough, Massachusetts and follows a flex work model with four days per week onsite. Regular onsite presence is required to support laboratory activities, hardware development, system integration, and testing. As a Mechanical Design Engineer II, you will contribute to the design, integration, testing, and support of large-scale electromechanical imaging systems. This role combines mechanical engineering design with significant hands-on laboratory work, providing opportunities to work directly with prototypes, test systems, and complex capital equipment throughout the product development lifecycle.
Primary Responsibilities
Design mechanical and electromechanical components, assemblies, fixtures, and tooling using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and engineering drawings. Support assembly, integration, bring-up, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electromechanical systems and prototypes. Develop and execute engineering test protocols, test setups, and verification activities to evaluate system performance. Analyze test data, document results, and support root-cause investigations for product and system issues. Maintain laboratory systems through setup, configuration, operation, refurbishment, and documentation activities. Create and manage engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), work instructions, engineering changes, and configuration records. Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles during design reviews, inspections, and failure analysis activities. Partner with cross-functional teams to support prototype builds, project milestones, and manufacturing readiness efforts.
