Overview
The Principal Web Technology Lead is responsible for defining and governing the web technology ecosystem that powers Microsoft's commercial web experiences. This role owns the standards, governance, platform strategy, and implementation framework required to ensure web platforms, tagging, and measurement capabilities operate consistently across the customer journey. Acting as both the Web Technology Lead and overall Capability Lead, this individual serves as the bridge between business stakeholders, web platform teams, analytics teams, and engineering organizations. They translate business scenarios and measurement needs into technical standards and platform requirements while ensuring consistent implementation across the web ecosystem. This role does not own data engineering, analytics, or reporting delivery. Instead, it ensures that the web platforms, tagging frameworks, metadata standards, and measurement capabilities required by those teams are implemented consistently and governed across the ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities Web Technology Strategy Own the technology strategy for commercial web measurement and customer journey instrumentation. Define how web platforms support business capabilities such as customer journeys, AISEO, personalization, operational monitoring, and engagement signals. Establish platform direction, technical standards, and implementation patterns across the web ecosystem. Evaluate new web technologies, measurement approaches, and platform capabilities. Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders on web technology investments and tradeoffs. Standards, Governance & Architecture Establish and maintain web tagging, metadata, taxonomy, and measurement standards. Govern how customer journey signals are captured across web platforms. Define platform boundaries, responsibilities, and sources of truth. Lead cross-platform design decisions and standards adoption. Create governance processes for implementation reviews, exceptions, and change management. Platform Capability Management Maintain a capability-to-platform framework that clearly defines what each platform does and why. Define where technologies such as AEM, Adobe, Demandbase, Fabric-connected services, and future platforms should be used across the customer journey. Identify capability gaps, duplication, overlap, and technical debt across platforms. Ensure platform investments align to business priorities and customer journey requirements. Drive consistency across independently managed platform teams. Customer Journey Instrumentation Define how web experiences should be tagged and instrumented across the customer journey. Establish standards for telemetry collection, event design, metadata, and measurement readiness. Partner with engineering teams to ensure implementations adhere to defined standards. Ensure experiences are designed to support downstream analytics, activation, and reporting needs. Act as the escalation point for instrumentation strategy and measurement design decisions. Cross-Organizational Leadership Serve as the single point of coordination for the Web Technology capability. Align business stakeholders, platform owners, architects, engineers, and analytics teams around common objectives. Drive prioritization, roadmap alignment, and dependency management across participating teams. Represent the web technology strategy with leadership and partner organizations. Influence without authority across complex organizational boundaries.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications: Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience. 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
