Your role

The Industry Ph.D. Program at Infineon: Earn your Ph.D. at a university while gaining professional experience—an ideal start to your career. Advance your research with us and benefit from our extensive network of Ph.D. students and the expertise of a university. Mentoring is provided by both professors and dedicated Infineon employees. The research is conducted in collaboration with Chemnitz University of Technology and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Wunderle. Key responsibilities in your new role: Experience research : Investigations of thermal interface materials in practical applications: Determination of relevant material properties and factors influencing the materials Collaboration on the development of a service life model, including new test methods and simulations to estimate: Flow properties during operation Stability in various applications Aging mechanisms Reliable work : Materials science investigations of metal surfaces (e.g., heat sinks, base plates) for power semiconductor modules and their influence on the behavior of thermal interface materials Collaboration : As part of a major EU-funded project in cooperation with international companies and university partners Publication of your results, conference papers, and project documentation Active coordination and presentation of results within the consortium Opportunity to mentor students and interns The findings from this work will lead to: Improved reliability and robustness of power semiconductor modules Your profile You are passionate about research and want to combine academic excellence with industrial applications. You enjoy working in an international environment, communicate openly, and bring curiosity, initiative, and a strong interest in pursuing a collaborative Ph.D. in an industrial setting. Qualifications and skills to help you succeed: Study field : A completed college degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or a comparable field. You also meet the admission requirements for a Ph.D. program at a partner university Experience : In materials characterization, ideally with polymers and/or surface analysis Enthusiasm : For scientific work and a structured, data-driven approach Basic knowledge : In numerical simulation (FEM) of flow behavior or heat conduction Personality : Willingness to question the status quo and develop new approaches Communication skills: Excellent communication skills in German and English (spoken and written), as well as the ability to work effectively in a team to integrate into our R&D department and the research environment Desirable (not required): Additional knowledge : In the assembly and interconnection technology of power semiconductor modules In-depth experience : In the field of materials analysis, particularly rheology or comparable analytical methods Basic knowledge : Of thermal interface material and its application I nitial experience : With scientific publications, conference presentations, and/or participation in collaborative research projects #WeAreIn for driving decarbonization and digitalization.
