About this role

We have fixed start and end dates that are designed to work with various universities’ academic calendars. We are hiring AI research interns to join a high-caliber team of research scientists, domain experts, data scientists, and machine learning engineers working on foundational AI problems that directly influence Intuit's portfolio of fintech offerings to millions of consumers and small businesses. As a research intern, you'll work on cutting-edge AI technologies including robust and safe AI, neuro-symbolic AI (knowledge representation and learning, constraint satisfaction), reinforcement learning, agents and multi-agent systems, post-training and inference-time scaling in language models, and decision theory — researching and applying the latest innovations to develop advanced capabilities, push the state of the art in AI, and improve our customer experience.

Responsibilities

Design and run experiments to explore open research questions in your area of focus (e.g., generative AI, reinforcement learning, neuro-symbolic AI). Develop and prototype novel models, algorithms, or methods, and rigorously evaluate them against relevant baselines. Read, synthesize, and build on current AI research literature to inform your approach and identify promising directions. Partner with research scientists, data scientists, and machine learning engineers to connect research findings to real product and customer impact. Document your methodology, findings, and code clearly, and present your work to both technical and non-technical audiences. Contribute to publication-quality write-ups of your research where applicable.

Qualifications

Current enrollment in a PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, with an expected graduation date after the internship ends Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for the duration of the internship Ability to work in a hybrid environment at an Intuit office location determined by your team and role (Relocation stipend will be provided) Experience in one area of AI (e.g., natural language processing, large language modeling, generative AI, uncertainty quantification, reinforcement learning, algorithmic foundations of optimization, or similar). Established track record of publication, ideally with first-author papers at top-tier AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, AAAI, EMNLP, AISTATS, KDD). Experience developing and debugging in Python with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar frameworks. Experience disseminating scientific work in English through paper submissions and conference presentations.
