Opportunity
Summary Based in Mississauga, ON, the Assistant Financial Controller will play a key role in supporting the financial management of the plant, ensuring accuracy, control, and timely reporting of financial performance. Working closely with the plant Financial Controller and the local leadership team, this role will contribute to month-end closing, financial planning, cost control, and operational decision making. The position is designed to grow into a strong finance business partner for the site.
What you will be doing
Financial Closing & Reporting Lead and coordinate key elements of the month-end close process Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements and reporting packages Support timely submission of results in HFM Financial Control & Compliance Ensure compliance with internal controls, group policies, and US GAAP requirements Monitor balance sheet accounts and proactively resolve discrepancies Maintain and improve documentation of accounting processes and controls Support internal and external audits Business Performance & Analysis Analyze plant performance, including cost variances, margins, and operational KPIs Provide clear and actionable insights to the plant leadership team Support decision making through financial modelling and analysis Track and monitor cost control initiatives Support on Capex follow-up and Working Capital management Budgeting & Forecasting Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts Work with operations to ensure realistic and aligned assumptions Analyze variances versus budget and forecast, identifying key drivers Operational Finance Support Oversee vendor setup, purchase orders, and key transactional flows with a control mindset Partner with production, supply chain, and purchasing teams to improve financial discipline and optimize internal processes to improve the efficiency of the team Contribute to the implementation of SAP and finance processes and policies at the site Partner with sales to manage and ensure timely payment from our customers Support with new customer setups with a focus on delivering service excellence and customer satisfaction Support sales with pricing of new products as well as yearly price increases What you need to succeed: At least 4+ Years as a Bookkeeper/Accountant. Previous experience in Auditing would be valuable Proficiency in English, both written and spoken is mandatory. Analytical, with high attention to detail and proven ability to autonomously manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Knowledge of HFM, SAP and Microsoft Office products. Enjoys finding solutions to problems and has a hands-on mentality. Ambition and ability to understand the business behind the numbers. Highly motivated, energetic and willing to learn.
