Job Overview
The Business Unit Manager will lead a key product portfolio and market segment within Hubbell Gas Utility Solutions (HGUS), serving natural gas distribution utilities, utility contractors, distributors, and related infrastructure customers across North America. This role is accountable for profitable growth, financial performance, market strategy, product innovation, customer engagement, and organizational capability within the assigned business area.
The position provides cross-functional leadership across product management, applications and design engineering, field support, sales, marketing, pricing, operations, supply chain, quality, and finance. Achieve business unit objectives, including top-line sales growth, operating profit, working capital, service, quality, and market share targets. Provide accurate and timely financial forecasts, performance reporting, and business updates to the VP/GM, Business Unit Director, and Hubbell Finance. Develop and execute strategic growth plans for products serving natural gas distribution and related utility infrastructure applications. Own product portfolio strategy, including market positioning, pricing, profitability, lifecycle management, simplification, and investment priorities. Lead cross-functional teams supporting product management, applications engineering, field training, design engineering, and commercial execution. Collaborate with Hubbell sales leadership, territory teams, distributors, and strategic customers to expand specifications, market access, and share of wallet. Partner with Hubbell Enterprise Marketing to develop value propositions, demand-generation programs, product launches, sales tools, and customer communications. Work closely with the Hubbell Pricing Team and Finance to strengthen pricing discipline, manage margin, and align commercial actions with strategic objectives. Lead Voice of Customer activities and convert customer, regulatory, competitive, and market insights into prioritized growth initiatives. Champion New Product Development from ideation and business-case development through commercialization, launch, and post-launch performance review. Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Customer Service to improve delivery performance, reduce backlog, resolve customer issues, and prevent quality escapes. Identify opportunities to deliver greater customer value, reduce cost, improve service levels, and strengthen the competitiveness of the HGUS portfolio. Develop business cases for capital investments, strategic partnerships, adjacent-market expansion, and acquisition or integration opportunities, as appropriate. Build organizational capabilities by identifying, developing, and retaining the talent and competencies required for short- and long-term success. What will help you thrive in this role?
6–8 years of experience in manufacturing, product management, project management, commercial leadership, engineering, operations, and/or general business management, including at least 5 years of leadership in a multifunctional organization. Experience with natural gas distribution utilities, utility contractors, distributors, or engineered products used in gas distribution infrastructure is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of financial statements, P&L management, forecasting, pricing, working capital, strategic planning, and performance management. Experience with direct and distribution channel go-to-market models, strategic customers, specification selling, and market development. Demonstrated ability to lead product portfolio strategy and New Product Development using Voice of Customer, market intelligence, business cases, and disciplined commercialization.
