About this role
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. Security and Privacy is the major challenge for the connected world. We build security and privacy into the core of Pixel devices to help end users and business owners to manage existing and incoming security challenges. We bring the most innovative security technologies and features into Pixel devices and also Android ecosystems. The open source software projects we collaborate on, run on ARM CPUs which constitute the largest share of smartphones market and an increasing number of hyper-scale data center and cloud computing machines. The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.
Develop low-level system software components for Pixel security, and design the cutting edge security features for future Pixel devices. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies. Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency). Develop technical solutions to help mitigate security vulnerabilities, and contribute to upstream open source software projects. Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages. 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products. 1 year of experience with software design and architecture. Preferred qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field. 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role. Experience in embedded or phone security design, including authentication, encryption, certificate management, and operating system security. Experience with boot and runtime firmwares, such as TF-A, UEFI, and ACPI. Familiarity with low-power SoCs and various CPU architectures (e.g., ARM, RISC-V, x86, MIPS). Background in open-source software development and a strong understanding of the security development life cycle (SDLC).
